The company’s expanded PowerHub portfolio, with inverter capacities of up to 30kW, targets larger homes, commercial premises and public institutions across Kenya.
Sun King has expanded its PowerHub solar inverter portfolio in Kenya, introducing higher-capacity systems designed to meet the electricity needs of larger households, businesses, schools and healthcare facilities.
The new systems, unveiled in Nairobi on October 8, 2026, extend the company’s inverter offering to 30 kilowatts (kW), allowing it to serve customers requiring more power than conventional household solar installations can provide.
The expanded range covers capacities from 2.2kW to 30kW, with options for different levels of battery storage and solar generation. The company said the systems are designed to accommodate growing electricity requirements without forcing customers to replace their existing installations.
The launch reflects Sun King’s expansion from solar lanterns and smaller home systems into installations capable of powering entire buildings, including offices, schools and commercial facilities.
Atta Arome, the company’s Product Head for Solar Inverter Systems, said the expanded range would enable Sun King to reach customers with a wider variety of power requirements.
The systems can be connected in parallel, allowing two or more inverters to operate together and increase total output. This gives customers the option of adding capacity as their household or business requirements change.
From household appliances to commercial facilities
The PowerHub Pro provides 5kW of inverter power, a 5-kilowatt-hour battery and approximately 2.7kW of solar capacity. It is designed to support appliances such as washing machines, water pumps, microwaves and kettles.
The PowerHub Max offers 10kW of inverter capacity and supports up to four batteries, providing a maximum storage capacity of 20kWh. Sun King says the batteries have an anticipated lifespan of 10 years under typical daily use.
The new higher-capacity systems provide between 15kW and 30kW of inverter power, with battery storage ranging from 15kWh to 120kWh and solar capacity of up to 48kW.
These configurations are intended for larger residential properties, businesses and institutions that need to operate multiple appliances or equipment simultaneously.
The company said the systems can also provide backup electricity during grid outages, helping customers maintain essential operations when the main supply is interrupted.
Keeping essential services running
Sun King Country Business Leader Elisha Omedo Adie said the value of reliable electricity extends beyond the amount of power a system can produce to whether it remains available when customers need it.
He cited Sienna Family Care Centre in Njiru, Nairobi, where electricity interruptions had previously affected the clinic’s ability to manage emergency cases at night.
According to Adie, Sun King PowerHub systems now help keep lighting, essential diagnostic equipment and cold storage running during outages.
The experience highlights the role of backup electricity in healthcare facilities, where disruptions can affect the delivery of services and the operation of essential equipment.
For small businesses, maintaining power can help prevent interruptions to customer service, keep equipment operational and reduce working hours lost during outages.
Sun King is also pursuing institutional projects outside Kenya. Adie cited a programme in Malawi targeting electricity access for 5,000 primary schools by 2030.
Flexible payments and nationwide support
Sun King is offering financing options alongside the expanded inverter range, allowing customers to spread payments rather than meet the full cost of installation upfront.
According to the company, the PowerHub range is available through its nationwide agent network, with monthly payments starting at KSh15,500 and a down payment of KSh22,600.
The company said its service covers system design, financing, installation, warranty and after-sales support, with customers dealing directly with Sun King throughout the process.
Veronica Mugwanja, Solar Inverter Business Manager for PayGo at Sun King, said the expanded range would allow customers to remain with the company as their energy requirements increased.
She noted that some customers had started with solar lanterns before moving to solar home systems and, eventually, inverters. The larger systems are intended to accommodate customers who move into bigger homes, establish businesses or require electricity for schools and community facilities.
Mugwanja said solar installations could also offer savings compared with expenditure on grid electricity and petrol or diesel generators. Battery storage allows customers to retain electricity for use when solar generation is insufficient or grid power is unavailable.
Sun King said its network of agents and service outlets supports customers across Kenya’s counties.
Building on Kenya’s solar market
Sun King has operated in Kenya since 2007, building its presence through solar lanterns and home systems supported by flexible payment arrangements.
The company says one in five Kenyans has access to its solar products, while its operations across Africa account for more than 330,000 solar products installed each month.
Its business model combines product development, financing, installation and after-sales care, with local agents helping customers access products and services.
Catherine Mudachi, Sun King’s Vice President of Marketing, said the expanded PowerHub range would enable more customers to access solar systems backed by professional installation, financing and ongoing support.
With the new capacity options, the company is seeking to serve customers whose needs extend from household electricity to powering commercial buildings and public facilities.
The full PowerHub inverter range is available through Sun King’s nationwide agent network. Customers can also attend product demonstrations organised by the company to assess the systems and discuss their electricity requirements with trained agents.
