Esther Koimett to Chair LTWP Board in a Non-Executive Position

 The Board of Directors of Lake Turkana Wind Power Limited (LTWP)  announces Ms.Esther Koimett, CBS, as its new Non-Executive Chairperson,taking over from Acting Chairman Willy Ireri, ending the search and recruitment process announced in March this year.

She will now lead East Africa’s largest wind farm, which delivers 310 MW of clean,reliable electricity to Kenya’s national grid from 365 wind turbines in Loiyangalani Ward,Marsabit County.

Ms. Koimett brings over 35 years of experience spanning both the public and private sectors in Kenya, designing and delivering significant commercial transactions and reform programmes.

While working for the Government of Kenya, she helped develop the regulatory framework that streamlined and opened Kenya’s energy sector to private investment and oversaw the landmark Initial Public Offering (IPO) of the Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen).

She also oversaw the Safaricom IPO and other significant milestones across investment promotion, privatization, public enterprise reform and policy. 

Her last appointment in public service was as Principal Secretary for Broadcasting & Telecommunications,a role to which she was appointed in 2020 and which she held until 2022.

She had previously served as Principal Secretary for the State Department for Transport from 2018.Before that, she served as Investment Secretary and Director-General for Public Investments and Portfolio Management at the National Treasury for 13 years following her term at the Kenya Post Office Savings Bank,where she was the Managing Director.

Ms. Koimett is currently active in corporate governance and leadership roles across several leading organisations, bringing her vast investment and public policy expertise to their boards.

She is the Chairperson of M-Pesa Holdings Company Limited and AAR Insurance Kenya Limited and is a NonExecutive Director of Car & General (Kenya) PLC and Kenya Airways PLC, where she previously represented the Government of Kenya.

She is an alumna of the University of Nairobi(UoN),where she earned a Bachelor of Commerce degree and,later, a Master of Business Administration (MBA).

She also completed the prestigious Advanced Management Programme (AMP) at Strathmore Business School and is a member of the Institute of Certified Investment and Financial Analysts,Kenya. 

LTWP welcomed Ms.Koimett to the Board and looks forward to her leadership in helping provide reliable,low-cost energy to Kenyan homes and businesses.
