- Central Bank of Kenya Celebrates Sixtienth Anniversary;
The Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) was established on Wednesday,September 14th, 1966, and celebrates its sixtieth anniversary in September 2026.
The week-long celebrations incorporate several sets of events including the Association of Africa Central Banks (AACB)
Annual Meetings, the inaugural CBK AI Conference,and a Gala Dinner.
The commemorations bring together central bank governors and technical officials from across Africa, financial sector regulators, commercial banks,researchers and global experts for a packed calendar of events.
The AACB Annual Meetings are being hosted in Kenya for the first time this decade.
The AI Conference, scheduled for Wednesday, September 16, seeks to explore the opportunities and risks that AI presents for the financial sector,with particular focus on its responsible application in monetary policy, financial regulation and supervision, and data analytics.
On Thursday, September 17, the AACB Symposium of Governors will be held under the theme “African Monetary Integration and Financial Sovereignty: Strategic Perspectives in Reducing the Continent’s Dependence on International Institutions”.
Beyond the policy discussions, a Gala Dinner will be held on Thursday, September 17 bringing together invited dignitaries, partners and stakeholders to celebrate the Bank’s legacy.
His Excellency Hon.William Samoei Ruto, PhD, C.G.H. President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-In-Chief of the Defence Forces will be the Chief Guest at this ceremony.
The week concludes on Friday, September 18 with the AACB Assembly of Governors Meeting, followed by a tree-planting ceremony with visiting Governors.
