APS Bomet head coach Sammy “Pamzo” Omollo has been named the SportPesa League Coach of the Month for April after guiding his side through a flawless run of results that has revitalised their season.
The former Kenyan international delivered a standout month, with APS Bomet winning all their fixtures and tightening their grip in the battle for top-flight survival.
The achievement comes amid a difficult personal period for Omollo, who is still mourning the loss of his wife earlier this year.
Speaking during the award ceremony held on Mother’s Day, Pamzo dedicated the honour to his late wife, known affectionately as “Mama Denzel,” describing her as a constant source of inspiration throughout his coaching career.
“Today being Mother’s Day, I want to dedicate this award to my beloved wife, Mama Denzel. She was an inspiration to me and supported me throughout my coaching journey. I miss her, and this award is for her,” Omollo said after receiving his trophy and KES 75,000 cash prize from SportPesa.
On the pitch, APS Bomet produced a perfect April campaign, registering victories over Sofapaka, Ulinzi Stars, and Posta Rangers while maintaining clean sheets in all three encounters.
The results have marked a significant turnaround in form for the club, which has steadily climbed in confidence and structure during a crucial phase of the season.
Despite the strong performances, Omollo remained grounded, stressing that the job is not yet complete.
“We know there’s still work to do to secure safety, so I’m challenging the boys to keep working hard. There is still a lot of football to play, and anything can happen,” he added.
APS Bomet’s momentum has since carried beyond April, with the side extending their winning streak to five matches and going eight games unbeaten. Their recent 2-0 away victory over Mathare United further strengthened their survival hopes.
The club’s resurgence has been widely attributed to improved organisation, defensive discipline, and renewed belief under Pamzo’s leadership.
Mara Sugar head coach Francis Xavier finished as runner-up for the monthly award after also securing three wins, though his side played one more fixture during the period under review.
