Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM) is committed to fostering collaboration between county governments, the private sector, and other key stakeholders to create a more conducive environment for businesses to thrive.
In line with this, today, KAM engaged with the Machakos County government, led by Her Excellency Governor Hon Wavinya Ndeti, to discuss the ease of doing business within the county.
Governor Ndeti opened the forum with insightful remarks, recognizing the critical role that industries within Machakos play in empowering the local community. She emphasized,“The government’s role is to provide an enabling environment where businesses can thrive. We recognize that a thriving business ecosystem is key to the economic success of our county, and we will continue to implement policies that support this goal.”
The Machakos County Deputy Governor Hon. Francis Mwangangi also participated in the discussions, reiterating the county’s commitment to improving the business environment.
Some of our members, who have established businesses within Machakos were present to share their experiences, particularly concerning the cost of doing business in the county. KAM Chief Executive Tobias Alando, MML, Bsc. addressed several challenges affecting competitiveness, offering practical recommendations aimed at improving the business climate.
The discussions included key issues such as permit renewals, fees and charges, regulatory compliance and enforcement, sector-based public participation, CSR (with a proposal to structure and incentivize it), business representation at county business engagements, land use management (zoning plans and land use conflicts), solid waste management, and infrastructure development.
KAM remains dedicated to working closely with Machakos County leadership to drive sustainable industrial growth, enhance infrastructure, and ultimately contribute to the county’s economic prosperity. Together, we aim to create a thriving environment where businesses can succeed and grow.
