- Britam, CIC, Equity Lead Winners at 2025 AKI Awards as Insurance Agents Rise 9.5%;
- Women dominate sales force while insurers push digital transformation to improve customer service.
Kenya’s insurance industry recognised top-performing firms and agents at the 2025 AKI Awards,with major insurers taking top honours while the sector reported growth in the number of qualifying sales agents.

Association of Kenya Insurers (AKI) said that 1,195 insurance agents qualified for the awards in 2025, up from 1,084 in 2024, representing a 9.5 percent increase, signalling continued expansion in the industry’s distribution network.


In the life insurance categories, CIC Life Assurance was named Group Life Insurance Company of the Year, while Equity Life Assurance won awards for Lowest Loss Ratio and Innovation.

Meanwhile, Britam Life Insurance dominated the Individual Life Insurance category, winning both the Life Insurance Company of the Year and Innovation Award.

Other companies recognised included APA Life Assurance, which recorded the highest percentage growth in new policies, and Pioneer Assurance for most improved performance.

The awards also highlighted the increasing role of women in the insurance industry.
AKI Chairman Tom Gitogo said 67 percent of the qualifying agents were women, pointing to growing female participation from boardrooms and executive management to sales networks.
“This shows encouraging progress in leadership and participation across the insurance sector,” he said.
Among individual performers,Beatrice Wanjiku Kariuki of Old Mutual was named General Insurance Agent of the Year, while Geoffrey Mandela of Jubilee Health Insurance and Margaret Muthoni Mwaura of APA Insurance finished second and third respectively.
In the life insurance segment, Doreen Mwendwa Mwirigi of Madison Life Assurance won the Life Insurance Agent of the Year, New Business Award and was also recognised as the youngest life insurance agent.
AKI Executive Director Tom Gichuhi said the industry is prioritising customer experience through technology, reflected in the awards theme “Customer First: Reimagining Customer Service through Digital Transformation.”
He revealed that the association plans to introduce an industry-wide Customer Service Charter supported by technology to establish minimum service standards across insurers.
