Competition Authority of Kenya (CAK) has approved Africa Travel Investments’ bid to acquire 100% of Pollman’s Tours and Safaris.
Africa Travel is Europe-incorporated with no commercial activities in Kenya, while Pollman’s tours and Safaris, is Kenya-incorporated, specializing in selling guided safaris and tour packages to travel agents and tour operators.
The agreement involves Africa Travel acquiring 100 percent of Pollman’s shares since the European company wishes to realize Africa’s full potential in Kenya.
CAK clarified that following the consolidation, there will be no change in market share for Pollman’s’ and Africa Travel’s since Pollman’s and Africa Travel operate in different lines of business.
CAK further said that the structure and concentration of the markets of the tour operators in Kenya will not be affected, and as a result, the transaction does not raise any competition concerns
“It is the Authority’s view that the proposed transaction will not lead to a substantial lessening or prevention of competition in the tour operators’ markets in Kenya,” CAK noted.
The Kenya Association of Tour Operators (KATO) indicates there are 322 active tour operators in the local market, including Pollman’s, Bountiful Safaris, and Bonfire Adventures.
