- Unveils a service pod and branch on the move model in Nairobi
- In 2025, the bank has expanded its physical branch network to 89 in a bid to meet rising demand for human interaction.
Absa Bank Kenya has unveiled two Kenya-first service innovations-the Branch on the Move and the Service Pod, as part of a major expansion of its national distribution network.

Alongside six new branches opened this year, the rollout brings Absa’s footprint to 91 branches and service centres and marks a bold step in redefining access, convenience, and advisory-led banking for customers across the country.
The two first-of-their-kind service channels are designed to bring banking even closer to customers and form part of a broader strategy to expand into all key regions and high-traffic malls across the country under its Tupo Ulipo (we are where you are) campaign.

The innovative channels complement the new and refreshed branches opened in 2025 in Gilgil, Kawangware, Kisumu, Mtwapa, and Wajir, where Absa introduced Shariah-compliant services to deepen financial inclusion in the region.
This expansion is part of the bank’s long-term strategy to enhance financial access and inclusion, strengthen service delivery, and elevate customer experience through a seamless blend of digital convenience and physical touchpoints.
It also reinforces Absa’s commitment to serving fast-growing, under-banked communities with relevant and accessible financial solutions.
The Branch on the Move is a cashless moving truck designed to offer consumers with every day, round-the-clock banking services such as on-the-spot debit card issuance, digital onboarding during account opening, and real-time activation of banking services at their doorsteps, extending service availability beyond traditional branch times.
Complementing the Branch on the Move is the first lounge-style Absa Service Pods built to offer fast, personalised and modern banking services within mall hours, giving customers extended access beyond normal branch hours.
Speaking about the strategic network expansion, Absa Bank’s Consumer Banking Director, Moses Muthui said that these innovations are a direct response to customers’ demands for more accessible, efficient and personalised banking services.
“With each innovation, we are responding to our consumers’ needs on access to financial services, enhancing inclusion for all.
Our growth in distribution channels this year is a stamp of our commitment to bring modern banking closer to communities across Kenya,” said Mr. Muthui.
The new service formats also reinforce Absa’s sustainability journey. The Branch on the Move is solar powered, reducing the bank’s carbon footprint while enabling service continuity across regions.
Both units have been intentionally designed with accessibility and inclusion in mind, supporting persons with disabilities, the elderly, customers with low digital literacy, and busy professionals who require flexible banking options.
By embedding inclusive design and renewable energy into its service models, Absa is extending its reach efficiently, enabling scale without heavy physical builds, and positioning itself as a forward-looking brand committed to equitable access and long-term community wellbeing.
Moses added that Absa’s expansion strategy recognises the co-existence of digital banking and physical branches, noting that while digital channels provide convenience and speed, physical touchpoints enhance trust, advisory, and relationship building.
To further strengthen this hybrid model, the bank has also grown its agency banking network to over 8,000 agents nationwide, ensuring service continuity and support during high-traffic periods and complementing the expanded physical presence.
The bank is planning on rolling out seven additional mobile banking trucks across the regions where the bank operates, including plans to install more service pods in high-traffic malls nationwide.
With an impressive presence in 38 counties, Absa Bank Kenya is associated with several market firsts, such as the first ATM machine in Kenya, Sharia-compliant banking and unsecured lending to consumers.
