The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) has launched a state-of-the-art New Generation Aircraft Recovery System at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), marking a significant milestone in aviation safety and operational resilience.
According to KAA, the advanced equipment, supplied by AMS Aircraft Recovery Ltd from the United Kingdom, positions Kenya at the forefront of airport emergency preparedness in the region.
In his remarks during the launch, held at JKIA,Caleb Kositany, KAA Chairman, described the acquisition as a major milestone not just for KAA but for Kenya’s aviation sector as a whole.
The system is the only one of its kind in the region and is designed to facilitate the rapid and safe removal of disabled aircraft from runways and taxiways.
KAA said this advancement is expected to minimize operational disruptions and significantly improve incident response times at Kenya’s busiest airport.
“Aircraft incidents, though rare, can cause significant disruptions. This equipment will now allow us to respond faster, more safely, and more effectively in such situations—reducing delays, protecting lives and assets, and ensuring continuity in operations,” Kositany said.
The new recovery system underscores KAA’s commitment to maintaining world-class safety standards and operational excellence.
By enabling quicker clearance of disabled aircraft,KAA said the system is expected to enhance the overall efficiency and reliability of airport operations, benefiting airlines, passengers, and the wider aviation community.
Industry observers have lauded the move as a proactive step that positions JKIA and the country at the forefront of aviation safety in Africa.
