Kenya Petroleum Refineries Limited (KPRL) and Gulf Energy E&P B.V. (GEBV) have initialled a Crude Oil Storage and Handling Contract, marking a significant step towards the development and export of crude oil from Kenya’s South Lokichar Basin.
The Contract establishes the framework through which KPRL will receive,Contract,KPRL store,handle and deliver crude oil to vessels berthed at the Kipevu Oil Terminal II (KOT II) for export.
Gulf Energy E&P B.V. is expected to produce crude oil from fields in the South Lokichar Basin in accordance with the ratified Field Development Plan (SDP).
The crude oil will be transported by road to KPRL’s facilities in Mombasa for storage and handling ahead of export.
Under the Contract,KPRL will provide the infrastructure and facilities required for the receipt and offloading of crude oil into designated tanks, storage of the crude oil and flushing medium, and delivery of the product through its export facilities.
The Contract was initialled by Gulf Energy E&P B.V. General Counsel Mr. Edward Kasaine and KPRL Ag. Chief Executive Officer Mr. Joseph Ndoti.
Also present during the signing were Mr. Stephen Tanui, Mr. Andrew Maingi and Mr. David Kombe from Gulf Energy E&P B.V.
Mr. Tom Mailu, Ms. Abigael Mwangi, Ms. Kedzo Kalama,Mr. Fredrick Kipngok and Mr. Timothy Kirui from Kenya Petroleum Refineries Limited and Kenya Pipeline Company PLC.
The agreement strengthens KPRL’s position as a key national petroleum infrastructure provider and its strategic role in supporting the growth of Kenya’s oil and gas sector.
