- UBA appoints George Otieno as Board Chairman;
United Bank of Africa (UBA) has appointed George Oduori Otieno as its new board Chairman.
Mr. Otieno takes over from Mr. Alphan Njeru, who concluded his tenure as Board Chairman in November 2024.
“We express our sincere appreciation to Mr.Njeru for his leadership and contributions to the Board, as Independent Non-Executive Director from November 2016, and subsequently as Board Chairman from November 2021,” the bank said.
The announcement follows regulatory approval and comes as the bank marks 15 years of operations in Kenya.
UBA said Mr. Otieno brings a distinguished career to the role having served as a Non-Executive Director on the UBA Kenya Board since September 2021.
“UBA Kenya Bank Ltd is committed to achieve growth and innovation, and we look forward to Mr. Otieno’s leadership in guiding our strategic vision,” UBA noted.
He has previously chaired the Board’s Finance and Governance Committee.
Mr. Otieno holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Lagos and is a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute, London.

He brings a wealth of leadership experience, currently chairing several boards, including Capex Life Assurance Kenya and The Nairobi Club, and holds the role of Non-Executive Director at WAICA Re.
He also held Senior Executive positions at Africa Re and CEO of African Trade Insurance Agency( now ATIDI).
UBA Kenya Bank started operations in Kenya in October 2009 with 3 branches in Nairobi and has since increased its footprint to 5 branches in Nairobi, Nakuru and Mombasa.
