- Trianum Hospitality sets sights on East Africa growth
Kenyan hotel operator Trianum Hospitality has outlined plans to expand across East Africa as it marks 15 years in business.
The company, founded in 2010 as a hospitality advisory firm, currently manages seven properties with 335 rooms in Nairobi, Mombasa, and Kisumu. It supports hotel owners through project design, feasibility studies, pre-opening and operational management.
Founder and board director Samantha Muna said the firm has increasingly focused on partnerships with international hotel groups such as Best Western to meet investor and market demand.
Trianum’s guest base, once dominated by expatriates and UN staff, is now largely drawn from African countries including Uganda, South Sudan, and Rwanda.
The group says it is also seeing rising demand linked to medical tourism, with families accompanying patients seeking treatment in Nairobi.
The company has positioned its serviced apartments as an alternative to short-term rental platforms, targeting visitors looking for longer stays combined with services such as housekeeping, security, and reception.
Trianum is developing new projects in Rwanda, Zanzibar, and other regional hubs, with feasibility and design work underway for up to four additional properties.
Previous launches include Executive Residency by Best Western on Riverside Drive and Heri Heights SureStay Collection by Best Western near the Nairobi Arboretum.
Muna said the company’s approach is to phase expansion in line with market demand.
The company has introduced an initiative called Local Options to Create an African Landscape (LOCAL), aimed at directing benefits to local communities.
Measures include sourcing from Kenyan suppliers, promoting women into leadership, supporting youth employment, and introducing environmental measures such as reducing single-use plastics, recycling, and energy efficiency systems.
Chief executive Liza Uku said the company was seeking to balance growth with community impact through job creation and local partnerships.
Trianum has launched a new strategy branded Trianum Living, which will focus on apartment hotels, community-based homestays, boutique lifestyle hotels, and expansion of its restaurant brand, Scapes.
The company has formally registered in Rwanda under Trianum Century Rwanda Limited and is exploring opportunities in Uganda and Tanzania. It is also planning to establish a hotel equity fund to finance new projects.
