TECNO has broken ground on a 100-pitch renovation project across African communities, beginning at Austin Grounds in Mathare’s Mulango Kubwa area, Kenya.
The mobile technology brand announced the initiative alongside its partnership as Official Global Partner of AFCON Morocco 2025 and the East African tournament in 2027, strengthening its relationship with the Confederation of African Football following its sponsorship of the 2023 tournament.
“This partnership between TECNO with AFCON is not only about celebrating football at the highest level, but also about investing in the grassroots, where the true heartbeat of the game lives,” said Hashim Kamau, Member of County Assembly for Kinyago California Ward, at the groundbreaking ceremony at Austin Grounds in Mulango Kubwa, Mathare. “Football is more than just a game, it is hope.”
Area Chief Angela Nzioka joined local youth at the ceremony. The renovations will upgrade fields in informal settlements and disadvantaged communities where safe sports infrastructure is scarce and opportunities for structured engagement are limited.
TECNO is the first mobile device company to fund African grassroots sports infrastructure at this scale, positioning investment at the community level where talent develops rather than solely at tournament venues.
