Kenya has been ranked as the most forward-looking Country in Africa when it comes to Information and Communication Technology (ICT) regulation in the latest ICT Regulatory Tracker published by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

The report, which benchmarks 194 countries, awarded Kenya a score of 93 points, an improvement from 92 in 2023.
This places the country at the top of the continent, ahead of Nigeria (92 points) and South Africa (88 points).

Globally, Kenya stands at position 20, with Italy leading the way at 100 points.
The ITU evaluates national ICT regulatory models based on the organization of the regulatory bodies, the regulatory space, regimes that exist, and market competitiveness.

“This ranking is a testament to the wonderful work CA has done in spearheading Kenya’s digitalization and driving digital access for all,” said Stephen Isaboke, Principal Secretary for Broadcasting and Telecommunications.
Isaboke noted that this ranking shows CA staff and management are undertaking their work responsibly.

Kenya’s regulatory regime was also rated the highest rating fourth-generation (G4) indicating a mature, visionary system that encourages innovation, affordability, and access to ICT.
The Communications Authority of Kenya (CA), which is turning 25 next month, welcomed the recognition.
Director General David Mugonyi said the ranking is a testament to CA’s commitment towards building an enabling environment for digital growth and inclusion.

CA policies have facilitated greater national connectivity, greater consumer choice, and enabled the digital economy to the advantage of citizens and business.
