Kenya marked a historic milestone with the successful launch of the National Sanitation Management Policy under the theme “Towards Safely Managed Sanitation for All by 2030 and Beyond.”
The event was presided over by the Cabinet Secretary for Water, Sanitation and Irrigation, Eric Mugaa accompanied by PS State Department for Water and Sanitation Julius Korir, CBS and Director Sanitation Management Eng. Mary Wamaitha, who led sector stakeholders in affirming sanitation as a national development priority.
For too long, sanitation has been treated as an afterthought. The newly launched Policy changes this trajectory by elevating sanitation within the national agenda, anchored on every Kenyan’s constitutional right to a clean and healthy environment.

It provides a coherent framework for stronger accountability, clear institutional mandates, accelerated and effective service delivery, meaningful public participation, and shared responsibility across government, partners, and citizens.
This milestone signals a decisive shift from policy to action—uniting institutions and communities towards safely managed sanitation for all by 2030 and beyond.
Much appreciation to all partners who worked tirelessly to make the document live including the National Assembly of Kenya African Population and Health Research Center, DAI, UN-HABITAT and UNICEF Kenya for the continued and valuable collaboration in the development of the Policy.
