
The Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) has received the ISO/IEC 27001 certification from the Dutch Accreditation Council (RVA), which strengthens its system for safeguarding sensitive information.
KEBS Managing Director Esther Ngari commended the Office of the Auditor-General for attaining the certification.
“The standard provides a vital framework for protecting sensitive information,” Ngari said.
Ngari added that being recognized internationally shows how KEBS is committed to it’s work.
“We are proud to be accredited by the Dutch Accreditation Council (RVA).
This global accreditation ensures that certificates issued by KEBS are recognized not only regionally but globally —enhancing Kenya’s competitiveness, supporting international trade, and reinforcing our role in the global quality infrastructure,” said Ngari.
Established in 1974, KEBS main activities have grown from the development of standards and quality control for a limited number of locally made products in the 1970s to the provision of more comprehensive standards development,Metrology,Conformity Assessment, Training and Certification services.
With the re-establishment of the East African Community (EAC) and Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), KEBS activities now include participation in the development and implementation of SMCA activities at the regional level.
KEBS participates in the harmonization of standards, measurements and conformity assessment regimes for regional integration.
KEBS operates the National Enquiry Point in support of the WTO Agreement on Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT)
