Kenyan Commercial Bank (KCB) has injected Sh 8 million towards Athletics Kenya to support key events in the federation’s calendar, further deepening the lender’s long-standing investment in sports, particularly athletics.
The sponsorship will go a long way in ensuring the successful hosting of two major events.
These events include Championships, scheduled for June 25–27, 2025, in Nairobi, and the World Athletics Championships trials, scheduled for August 1–2, 2025, at Nyayo National Stadium.
Mendi Njonjo, KCB Foundation Director, expressed the importance of this gesture in sports.
“This investment is a testament to our unwavering belief in the power of athletics. We recognize that Kenya is globally celebrated as a powerhouse in the sport, and we are committed to continuing our support for the many talented young men and women who bring us joy, pride, and a deep sense of national identity,” Njonjo said.
Besides athletics, KCB supports other sports such as motorsport, rugby, chess, and many others.
Previously, the Bank had injected sh 209 million to the iconic motorsports event that was slated for March 20-23, 2025 in Naivasha, underscoring its dedication to developing talent, fostering national cohesion and driving economic growth through sports.
Athletics Kenya (AK) provided a promising update on the long-awaited installation of the tartan track at the Nyayo National Stadium.
Athletics Charman Barnaba Korir confirmed that AK is working closely with government officials, and other key stakeholders, to expedite the process ahead of the African Nations Championship (CHAN), scheduled to take place from August 2 to 30 across Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.
“We got assurance that the glue, which was missing at that time, is already there. There’s confirmation that by the end of this month, we will have it, and installation will begin immediately after,” Korir stated.
