- KAA earns dual ISO Certifications for Environmental, Health and Safety;
Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) has attained two prestigious ISO certifications for environmental management and occupational health and safety for Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) and Moi International Airport (MIA).
The ISO certifications, 14001:2015 for Environmental Management Systems and ISO 45001:2018 for Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems, by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) are a great step towards KAA’s ongoing efforts in encouraging sustainable practices and ensuring the health and safety of its stakeholders and employees.
In a press statement, KAA applauded the achievement, noting that it solidifies KAA’s leadership role in environmental sustainability and occupational health safety, and bears witness to its adherence to global best practices in airport management.
The Authority reconfirmed that the dual certification aligns with its 2023–2027 Strategic Plan, where Environmental Stewardship is one of the strategic pillars.
“The ISO 14001:2015 certification validates KAA’s commitment to responsible environmental management, including waste management, water and energy conservation, carbon emissions reduction, and noise and air pollution control,” read part of the statement.
The ISO 45001:2018 certification, however, highlights KAA’s commitment to protecting its people.
“This certification recognizes KAA’s commitment to providing the highest possible levels of occupational health and safety for all airport employees and stakeholders,” KAA stated.
By integrating Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) principles into its daily operations, KAA says it is setting a benchmark for effective management and continuous improvement in the aviation sector in Kenya.
“KAA has successfully integrated Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) principles into the daily operations of its airports and head office,” the Authority said in a statement adding that this puts Kenyan airports on the map as safe, sustainable, and globally competitive today and in the coming years.
KAA also committed that it will undergo regular surveillance audits to maintain and enhance compliance to the ISO standards.
