Dr. James Mwangi, Executive Chairman of Equity Group Foundation (ELP) and Managing Director & CEO of Equity Group, addressed the 2026 cohort of 733 ELP scholars during their induction in Nairobi, describing them as the leaders who will shape industries, strengthen institutions, and transform communities.
“When I look at you, I see more than top scholars. I see Africa’s future doctors, engineers, entrepreneurs, researchers, and public servants.”
Dr. Mwangi reminded the scholars that leadership is not a future title, but a daily choice, to take initiative, act with integrity, and pursue solutions instead of complaints.
He urged them to use their six-month branch placements to sharpen their critical thinking and problem-solving skills, build a reputation for excellence, and master the art of communication and customer service.
He emphasized that responsibility begins now, from managing their monthly stipend wisely to stewarding the trust placed in them by their families and communities.
Since its establishment in 1998, the Equity Leaders Program has supported 10,505 university scholars across the region, with 1,115 securing fully funded placements in leading global universities, including Columbia, Harvard, Princeton, and the University of Pennsylvania.
Through early leadership exposure, digital skills development, and structured mentorship, ELP continues to nurture young leaders grounded in excellence, integrity, and impact.
