Ecobank Kenya announces the appointment of Mrs. Rebecca M. Mbithi as Managing Director, Ecobank Kenya, effective 9th February 2026, subject to regulatory approval by the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK).
Rebecca brings over 20 years of executive leadership experience, including a strong track record in strategy execution, organisational transformation and performance delivery within Kenya’s financial services sector.
She assumes leadership at a time when Ecobank Kenya is firmly positioned for growth and continues to play a central role within the East African Community (EAC) and the broader Central, Eastern and Southern Africa (CESA) region.
Rebecca succeeds Mrs. Josephine Anan-Ankomah, who now focuses fully on her role as Regional Executive, CESA, overseeing 17 markets across the region, including Kenya.
The Board and staff of Ecobank extend their sincere appreciation to Josephine for her transformational leadership, which strengthened Ecobank’s position in Kenya.
The Lender was confident that Rebecca will build on the strong foundation and lead the bank into its next phase of accelerated growth and regional impact.
Ecobank strengthened its financial base with a KSh. 3.5 billion(USD 27 million) capital boost, bringing its total capital to KSh. 8.5 billion (USD 65 million).
This indicated its commitment to driving business growth not just in Kenya, but throughout the East African region, as it gears up to meet the central bank’s capital requirements of Sh 10 billion set for 2029.
