- CS Mutahi Kagwe Flags -Off Milk Coolers to Empower Nyeri Dairy Farmers;
CS Sen. Mutahi Kagwe, flagged off a new batch of milk coolers to dairy farmers in Mwicwiri center, Nyeri County.
He was flanked by area MPS: Hon. Eric Wamumbi (Mathira), Hon. Anthony Njoroge Wainaina (Kieni), and Hon. Michael Wambugu Wainaina (Othaya) .
This rollout fulfills a commitment made by H.E President Dr. William Ruto to transform the lives of dairy farmers by putting more money in their pockets, through improved milk productivity, reduced post-milking losses, diversification enhanced value addition.
A total of 12 bulk milk coolers have been allocated to Nyeri County, and today’s beneficiaries included Destiny Dairy, Mia Mia Dairy, Karatina University and Senior Nyeri Dairy Groups.
More than 3,600 farmers will benefit from the coolers, enabling aggregation of an additional 30,000 litres of milk daily, valued at KSh 1.35 million. This translates into 10.95 million litres annually, earning farmers an extra KSh. 492.8 million.
The coolers are solar powered, and will save farmers KSh. 3.3 million in energy costs, while reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
The new aggregation hubs will stimulate local economies, create new business opportunities, and jobs.
CS Kagwe also announced that the government is distributing subsidized farm inputs like fertilizer and seedlings, through the Kenya Integrated Agricultural Management Information System (KIAMIS).
