For internationally mobile families, securing a place at the right school is an important milestone. But an acceptance letter is often only the beginning of a much wider transition.
Students may still need to adjust to a new academic system, unfamiliar classroom expectations, different assessment methods and, in many cases, learning and communicating through English every day.
For families, the question is therefore not only whether a child can gain admission, but whether they feel ready to learn, participate and build confidence once they arrive.
As this growing need has shaped the evolution of ULC, the expanded offering is designed to help students prepare not only for admission, but also for the academic and social transition into their new school environment.

Operating from The Adelphi in City Hall, United Language Centre (ULC) has supported adult learners, professionals, students, families, and newcomers from diverse backgrounds.
Over the years, one recurring theme has been that people rarely want to learn English in Singapore purely for the language itself. More often, they want the confidence to use it, whether that means contributing at work, speaking with a teacher, participating in class, or navigating everyday life more independently.
As these needs have become more interconnected, ULC has expanded its support beyond the traditional scope of an English language school, bringing language development together with education planning, international school preparation, study-abroad guidance and academic support.
Through its work with EGC, ULC is able to complement its existing language and community strengths with additional expertise in school admissions, academic preparation and international education pathways.
Where relevant, preparation can include entrance interview practice, school admission assessments, and readiness for tests such as WIDA, SLATE, TRACKTEST, or CAT4. An English language course can also be aligned with the student’s academic and transition needs.
The expanded offering also includes International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP) tutoring in Mathematics, Science, Humanities, and English, supporting students adjusting to international curricula.
The focus is on helping students adapt not only to subject content but also to expectations around critical thinking, communication, project work, collaboration, and independent learning.

ULC has maintained a long-standing focus on helping newcomers, professionals, students, and families use English with greater confidence across everyday, academic, and professional settings.
