Glovo Kenya Reinforces Rider Safety with Training in Mombasa

• 50 riders trained in Mombasa on road safety, traffic regulations and defensive riding.

Glovo Kenya has reinforced its commitment to improving road safety and supporting the welfare of its courier partners through a dedicated rider safety training held in Mombasa, bringing together approximately 50 riders and key road safety stakeholders.

The training, which was conducted in partnership with the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), Mombasa County Inspectorate, and the National Police Service –Traffic Department, aims to strengthen collaboration between the private sector and public authorities in promoting safer roads and responsible riding practices.

It provided riders with practical guidance on road safety,traffic regulations, hazard awareness, defensive riding and responsible road use,while creating an opportunity for riders to engage directly with the authorities responsible for road safety and enforcement.

Speaking during the Mombasa training,Liz Wambua,Head of Operations,Glovo Kenya,reiterated Glovo’s commitment to making rider safety an ongoing priority.

“Safety is not a once-off conversation.Our continued engagement with riders and road safety stakeholders reflects our commitment to creating a safer environment for couriers across the country.

Taking this training to Mombasa allows us to engage directly with riders on the ground, understand the realities they face on the road and equip them with practical knowledge that can support safer riding every day.”

Samuel Musumba, Head of Programs, NTSA, said the continued collaboration with Glovo was an important step in strengthening road safety awareness among riders.

“Road safety is a shared responsibility, and initiatives such as this provide an important opportunity to take safety education directly to riders.

Through continued collaboration with industry players such as Glovo, we can strengthen awareness of traffic regulations,responsible road use and the importance of making safe decisions while on the road.

We encourage riders to apply the knowledge gained through these engagements and play their part in creating safer roads for all road users.”

Glovo’s continued investment in rider safety forms part of its broader commitment to rider welfare. Beyond promoting safer riding practices, the company has also implemented measures aimed at supporting riders’ wellbeing and financial security.

In Kenya, riders operating through the platform benefit from personal accident insurance,reflecting Glovo’s approach to supporting riders both on and beyond the road.

The Mombasa training builds on Glovo Kenya’s rider safety programme conducted in Nairobi in partnership with NTSA in February,which introduced Glovo’s voluntary in-app Rider Telematics feature,giving riders greater visibility into their riding patterns, including speed, acceleration and braking, while providing actionable insights to encourage safer riding habits.

The engagement reinforces Glovo’s continued investment in rider safety and welfare, while highlighting the importance of collaboration between technology platforms, riders, government agencies and other road users in creating safer roads.
